Why Pinterest is the best Social Media Platform for you brand
I have noticed that Pinterest comes last (if not last then definitely not the first) when brands & companies plan social media campaigns. It’s more like an afterthought platform (especially in India). However, contrary to generic belief, Pinterest is one the most amazing platforms I have worked on. It offers immense freedom to brands for any campaign they wish to do & also promotes good quality organic content, unlike some other social media channels where an initial pumping of money is mandatory to kick start engagement.
Here is a list of 5 solid reasons why I feel Pinterest is one of the best social media platforms today!
1. Its 60% search engine & 40% social media
Pinterest has a very strong algorithm for its user feed. While the user feed is optimized for individual user interests, it provides the user with search option which lets the user experience a new content feed instantly. This dual functionality makes Pinterest the perfect blend between the features of Facebook & Google!
This channel is also a bliss for new brands and companies, unlike other social media channels, where one can get their content heard & shared without spending a dime. The platform truly values the importance of good content and lets the users explore topics beyond their restrictive online persona.
2. Very high post life
Let us first define what is post life- It is the time an average post takes to receive about three-quarters of its total engagement.
Facebook: 2.5 – 4 hours
Instagram: 12 – 15 hours
Snapchat stories: 24 hours
Twitter: 18 minutes
**Pinterest: 3.5 – 4months**
This is a big help for marketers as the content does not lose its value over time!
3. Pins using re-direct URLs will not be approved
If you use a redirection URL in a pin, Pinterest algorithm can consider it to be a spam. It will either reject your pin publishing or simply reduce the impressions & visibility of the pin. Re-direct URL pins will surely be rejected in Pinterest advertising campaigns. Hence use long exact link of the webpage where you would want to drive the traffic instead of shortening the URL with bitly or similar tools.
4. No of followers play no role in content visibility:
Brand 1: 1400 followers & 70k monthly viewers
Brand 2: 8000 followers & 9k monthly viewers
Unlike most other social media channels, Pinterest does not depend on follower count to increase content visibility. It’s the quality of post (image, keywords, hashtags, title, description) etc. which play a major role in deciding the visibility of a pin. Type of pin also plays an important role in increasing content visibility on Pinterest.
5. Structured content/product visibility for any brand:
Pinterest is the only platform that gives the option of creating “Boards”. This is the best way for brands to categorize & present content/products for users to engage & explore. For example, Even though Instagram & Snapchat are the most happening platforms for an apparel brand, but they don’t provide options to segregate & classify products on these platforms.
