Indian Twitteratis 5 favorite political social media disasters

As they say “think twice before you leap”, however, when it comes to social media, “think multiple times before you post” should be the quote, especially if its political, because there is a large pool of people ready to act/react on them. Here are my 5 favorite political social media disasters:

• PhirDILDOmodiko

Mr. Tajinder Bagga created “phirdildomodiko@gmail.com” ID to get inputs from public for the upcoming general elections. Much to everyone’s surprise one particular person pointed out the glaring issue with the id & that was just the start of a meme & funny tweet flood directed at Mr. Bagga’s & Modi ji’s account.

• Rahul Gandhi’s account hack

When Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account got hacked, it seemed that hackers took out years of frustration on congress party. The tweets from the hacked account did not just target Rahul Gandhi but his entire family & political party.

• Arnab Goswami called Keralites “shameless” during the floods

During a debate on Kerala floods, the Republic TV’s news anchor, Mr Arnab Goswami called certain Malayalis “the most shameless bunch of Indians” he had ever seen. The issue got instigated when Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, tweeted that UAE had offered Rs.700crore as aid to Kerala. However, UAE ambassador Ahmed Albanna later mentioned that there is no official announcement or amount allocation as aid to Kerala.

Weather it was intentional or misinterpreted, Arnab Gowswami referring to Keralites as “shameless” did not go down well with the public. In response to this, Shashi Tharur started the hashtag #ProudToBeMalayali. While Twitteratis were busy condemning Mr. Goswami for his stance on the subject, people also brought down the app store rating of Republic TV in just a matter of few hours.

• Arvind Kejriwal’s love for Bollywood

Delhi CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal took Twitter’s official mission statement a little too seriously. It says: “Our mission is to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers”. Now Mr. Kejriwal must realise that he is entitled to do whatsoever in his free time but tweeting movie reviews was just a little too much for the general public. Moreover, it further instigated the Delhi janta who were unhappy with the Kejriwal. Hence the fact that Mr.Kejriwal had time to watch movies & share reviews did not go down well with public.

• When Modi ji called Prakash Singh Badal “India’s Nelson Mandela”

Ummm really… well we don’t know whether it was a pure political diplomatic stance (BJP & Akali Dal alliance) or Modi ji actually believes what he said; the statement surely did not fare well with people. People just couldn’t stomach the analogy and of course….. the memes flooded in.
